Comms Fault - Boiler Relay

The system seems to work, but this error pops up multiple times a day on the Evohome controller unit, so apparently it is losing its connection somewhere.
All suggested solutions I've been able to find mention moving the control unit and/or the relay somewhere else. Fine, done that, no effect. The relay is of course near the boiler, since they have to be connected by wire. Even when I put it a meter away and have the controller within a meter... still the error pops up.
Not fancying replacing any hardware, that's quite expensive. Anything I can analyze and/or investigate before I have to resort to throwing more money at it? Thanks in advance for the help.
